About the Workshop

This three-hour ethics workshop will feature psychologist and the executive director of the State Board of Psychology, Ronald Ross, PhD, and panel discussants from the Central Ohio psychological community. This interactive, discussion-based workshop for professional psychologists will begin with a review of the structure, purposes, and applications of Ohio Revised Code Chapter 4732 (the Psychology Law) and Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 4732 (the Rules Governing Psychologists), and on the State Board of Psychology’s responsibility to reference ethical standards when interpreting its rules. Common errors in professional practice related to role confusion, informed consent, confidentiality, release of raw data, and professional isolation will be reviewed. Vignettes, State Board case materials and participants’ experiences and questions will be used to help develop a structure for ethical decision-making.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will:

  • Identify, describe and differentiate between the Ohio Psychology Law, the Rules Governing Psychologists and prevailing standards that are used to interpret rules.
  • Gain an appreciation for the application of the APA ethics code and administrative law and rules that serve the basis for the regulation of Psychology in Ohio.
  • Have an increased understanding of primary ethical dilemmas and errors resulting in the violation of the rights of clients and others and complaints to the State Board.
  • Have an improved ability to develop an ethical-legal framework for approaching professional psychological practice dilemmas.
